May challenge inspiration - I otterly love you!

May challenge inspiration - I otterly love you!

Hey friends, how are you? I thought that I would share a little inspiration today for this month's creative challenge! If you haven't seen the challenge yet, click here for the details!

This month, we have a sketch challenge. I decided to keep my card clean and simple, which is a style I love. I started by die-cutting a circle in my card panel using Waffle Flower's nesting circle dies, as per the card sketch. I then ink blended some blue distress oxide inks on to the front of an A2 card base - the colours I used were Speckled Egg and Peacock Feathers.

Next, I added a thick line of Glossy Accents at the top of my ink blending, and used a stencil tool to scrape the Glossy Accents evenly over the ink blending. While it was still wet, I sprinkled over some tiny iridescent stars (the ones I used are no longer sold, but you can get similar ones here).

While my card was drying, I stamped out the otter and three sea shells from Time for Tea's Beach Buds stamp set. I coloured them with Copics, in the following colours:

Otter: E47, E44, E43, E42

Shells: E33, E51, E50

I then die-cut them with the co-ordinating dies. I use my Gemini Mini for all my small die-cutting, as I can keep it on my desk and not have to bring out the heavy machine!

I created my sentiment by heat embossing "I otterly love you" in white embossing powder on to some black card stock. Keep your eyes peeled for Tuesday's top tips next week, when I'll share how to get two sentiments to line up nice and straight!

I glued my card front (with the circle cut out) over my card base, so the ink blending was visible through the circle, then arranged my elements on to the card in line with the card sketch. I secured them down with foam squares and foam strips (using taller ones for the shells so they had more dimension than the otter).

I really hope this tutorial was helpful, and it inspires you to play along with this month's challenge. Don't forget that you can win a gift voucher to the My Perfect Stamp store, and an opportunity to guest design for a future challenge!

Have a great day and happy crafting!
